Learning Objectives
- Comparative education
Comparative education has a relatively recent disciplinary tradition, and the purpose of which is the identification and analysis, in a comparative key, of specific problems and educational issues. In this perspective, it is configured as a research discipline that tends to identify new knowledge, of a theoretical and practical nature, through the comparison between two or more educational systems (in use in different countries, in different regions, in different historical periods, in different places of formal and informal education, etc.).
The course aims to the theoretical and methodological foundations of comparative education.
The educational objectives are as follows:
- to define and identify the historical, theoretical and methodological foundations of comparative education;
- to acquire comparative analysis skills, from a historical point of view and in the different training environments (formal, non-formal, informal and local);
- to acquire basic elements for scientific research, in a comparative key, in the various educational contexts;
- to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on the professions of educator, pedagogist, researcher pedagogist in the European contex.
The expected learning objectives, declined according to the Dublin Descriptors, are the following:
Knowledge and understanding (DD1)
- Knowing theories and models in the pedagogical area to interpret educational and training events in a historical-evolutionary and political-economic perspective (of1)
- Know the theories and methodologies of empirical research (of2)
- Know a repertoire of technical-operational methods and tools suitable for formal, informal, non-formal (of3)
Processes Knowledge and applied understanding (DD2)
- Connect the theoretical and methodological contents learned to the interpretation of past, present, future events and processes (of4)
Autonomy of judgment (DD3)
- Knowing how to summarize the different approaches present in the theories of education and training (of5)
- Evaluate the relevance of the theories studied with respect to the situations faced and the actions managed and / or observed (of6)
Communication skills (DD4)
- Knowing how to communicate and share the analysis of events starting from the knowledge of one's professional field (of7)

The laboratory has the general objective of offering the student the opportunity to experiment with the survey methodologies presented during the theoretical lessons (analysis and comparison of different education systems, case studies, etc.).
Course Structure
- Comparative education
Frontal lessons. Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus.
- METHODS FOR THE DIACHRONIC AND SYNCHRONIC COMPARISON OF EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS
Analysis and interpretation of texts, archive materials, iconographic and audiovisual sources.
If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote mode, the necessary changes with respect to what was previously stated may be introduced, in order to comply with the program envisaged and reported in the syllabus.

- the comparison in formal, non-formal and informal education systems;
- the scientific research, in a comparative key, in the various educational contexts;
- the professions of educator and pedagogist in the European framework.

Critical knowledge of the correspondence between political mandate, pedagogical theories and educational practices, for a comparison of the educational and educational systems.
