Learning Objectives

  • Psychiatry

    Acquisition of theoretical knowledge of general psychopathology. Description of the syndromes of adolescence and adulthood according to the main signs and symptoms evaluated for each mental disorder. Description of epidemiological aspects related to psychiatric comorbidity in the course of other diseases. Description of the major pathogenetic models of psychosomatic illnesses, in particular giving space to stress reactions and its related biological and psychological. Acquisition of the general principles of supportive care drug and psychotherapeutic type.

  • Mental Disorders Assessment Laboratory

    Learning of tools that allow the evaluation of the main signs and symptoms for each mental disorder. Learning of syndromic pictures through the discussion of clinical cases.


Course Structure

  • Psychiatry

    A presentation lesson that briefly summarizes the program of the course.
    The contents are ordered to encourage continuous learning.
    The lessons are held with the slides.

  • Mental Disorders Assessment Laboratory

    The contents concern:
    - Observation and analysis of clinical cases.
    - Group discussion and feedback on the formulation of diagnoses and on the therapeutic project.


Detailed Course Content

  • Psychiatry

    Psychopathology and clinical methodology. Cognitive disorders. Psychopathological aspects of epilepsy. Abuse and substance addiction. Anxiety disorders. Dissociative disorders. Somatoform and psychosomatic disorders. Mood disorders. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Sexual and gender identity disorders. Eating disorders. Disorders of impulse control. Personality disorders. Signs of psychiatric pharmacotherapy. Psychoterapies. Psychiatric Emergency and suicide.

  • Mental Disorders Assessment Laboratory

    Assessment and clinical cases concerning mental disorders classified in the DSM-5. Each clinical case includes the patient's current history, family psychiatric history, medical history, results of mental status assessment, diagnostic characteristics with particular attention to the severity of the disorder.
