Dario PALERMO

Born in Meina (NO) 15.11.1950. Graduated in Classics, University of Catania, 1.12.1973. He achieved the diploma of the Scuola di Perfezionamento in Classical Archaeology of the same University.

From 1974 to 1981 fellowship at the Institute of Archaeology of the University of Catania; from 1981 to 1999 "Ricercatore confermato" at the same Institute. From 1.11.1999 to the 31.10.2002 he has been Associate professor of Archaeology and history of Greek and Roman art in the University of Torino; from 1.11.2002 he has been Associate Professor of Classical Archaeology in the University of Catania; from 1.3.2005 he has become Full Professor of Classical Archaeology.

From the academic year 2003-2004 until 2008-2009 he has been Head of the Degree Program in Tourism, based in Piazza Armerina. From 1.1.2011 until 31.10.2015 he has been the Dean of the Department of Scienze della Formazione (formerly Processi formativi) of the University of Catania and also member of the Academic Board (Senato).

He is in charge as Director of the Scuola di Specializzazione i Beni Archeologici of the University of Catania.

He is Scientific Director of the Archeaeological Museum of Ramacca (Catania).

He has carried out excavations in the prehistoric settlement of Torricella near Ramacca, in Sant'Angelo Muxaro (Agrigento), in the Montagna di Polizzello near Mussomeli and in the Greek colony of Leontini.

In Crete, from the 1974 until today he is member of the Archaeological Mission of the University of Catania at Prinias, where he has in charge the excavations in the archaic city of the Patela; from 2006 onward he is the Director of the Mission.

He has been Principal Investigator of the National Research Project "The process of formation of the polis in Crete. Multidisciplinary researches on the urban space area in the cities of Central Crete" (PRIN 2007).

He is author or co-author of about 130 scientific papers.
