FRENCH LANGUAGE

Academic Year 2024/2025 - Teacher: ENRICO SPADARO

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

The aim of this course is the acquisition of solid linguistic, communicative, and metalinguistic knowledge and competencies according to B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Students will be able to understand complex and specialized texts (about concrete and abstract topics) and to catch their cultural (implicit) aspects. Furthermore, they will "refine" their analysis skills and their translation practices knowledge by discovering and exploring a domain linked to the langues de spécialité (ESP): tourism.

Applying knowledge and understanding:

Students will acquire some deep knowledge about French syntax and vocabulary in order to communicate in an appropriate, coherent, and efficient way. Conceptual fluency will represent the most important purpose of this course. Furthermore, students will be able to use and combine knowledge in an interdisciplinary perspective for a professional application in a particular context of langues de spécialité translation (tourism) coping with the problems related to linguistic interactions and exchanges.

Making judgements:

Students will be able to formulate independent judgements, to approach and “to explore", in a flexible and critical way, texts related to the tourism field. They will be confident with the context of français professionnel du tourisme.

Communication skills:

The course will allow students to acquire the main tools to communicate and interact in an appropriate, complex, and articulated way in social, professional and working contexts linked to tourism.

Learning skills:

Students will be able to implement useful cognitive strategies to improve and "handle" their learning and study method and to use their skills in professional activities.

Course Structure

The teaching methods proposed will mainly be those of integrated didactics with participative lessons and cooperative activities to stimulate motivation, confrontation and active participation; face-to-face lessons will mainly concern the systematisation and metalinguistic reflection phases
